Trust God’s Holiness to Lead and Guide Us Faithfully

This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He has promised. Isaiah 38:7.

All His precepts are trustworthy. They are steadfast for ever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness. Psalm 111:7-8. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8.

Jesus explained, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent Me, and from finishing His work.” John 4:34.

And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 188: Anointed One by the Spirit. Isaiah 11:2: The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And, Matthew 3:16-17; Acts 10:38: After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

This morning, the morning after the midterm elections in our country, I can’t help but feel uneasy because so much change was voted in showing just how unhappy most Americans are with the state of our country and with our world impacted of late. And we are still the same flawed, imperfect human beings – that can’t be changed with a vote. And I loved the second Scripture verses cited above. I turned to those two verses in my own Bible and with the different translation, NASB, I read those two verses and the two following, and I felt steadier. I always feel steadier when I read His word and bring everything to Him: The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His precepts are sure. They are upheld forever and ever; they are performed in truth and uprightness. He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever. Isaiah 111:7-10.

I pray for each new person voted in and for those leaving office. I pray for every person in our world so in need of Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, and His truth that is not our truth until we come to Him in deep humbleness of heart, in seeing our need for Him, and in turning to Him and Him only for the help we all of us need. And the prayer I’ll share below from the book of prayers, Amen and Amen, at first startled me until I realized it’s a prayer adapted from what Abraham asked of God all the way back in Genesis; and then I realized in my own heart, that that prayer is for all of us, from the father of the faithful, Abraham, who trusted in God’s faithfulness. May we come to know how faithful is God and His Holiness so needed for each of us, and therein, trust all He is doing.

***TROUBLED OVER THE LOST – LORD, I am deeply troubled, and my heart aches over the fate of those who do not know You. So many of us have family in worldly Sodom. Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? Would the good be condemned along with the wicked? Far be that from You! Far be it from You to do such a thing – to assign the same judgment to the righteous as to the wicked. I know and trust that the judge of all the earth will do right. I have dared to speak to the LORD – I who am but dust and ashes. Hear my plea. Be merciful. As Christians, we know that the good news of the gospel must reach even the Sodoms of our world. If I am to be part of the solution, I’m ready to do whatever You call me to do. Please make that clear. Thank You for Your grace. May it continue to wash over the earth as more and more people turn to You. Abraham’s prayer in Genesis 18:23-32. Adapted.***
