The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl and strips the forest bare; and in His temple all say, “Glory!” The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to His people! Psalm 29:9-11 NRSV.
I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. Matthew 5:39.
All of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the LORD. And the LORD – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:18.
And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 87: He committed Himself to God. Psalm 22:20-21: Deliver my soul from the sword, my only life from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion’s mouth; from the horns of the wild oxen You answer me. And, Luke 23:46: And Jesus crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.
It’s incredibly easy to hum along in our life sure of ourselves and our place in the world. And our carefully constructed personae carries us only so far. To find our true selves we need Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. To understand myself, at times the biggest mystery of all, I want to know God because He began all of us and everything we see and all we cannot yet see. I want to know my Savior and His incredible love showing us our Father and His commitment to our Father in everything. I want to be led by the Spirit who is ready always to help. This world with its confusions and overload of everything except God’s truth cannot help me understand what is most important. When I am at my lowest point, overwhelmed with the enormity of everything, and the futility of my own efforts to understand this world and my own self struggling, I long for the veil to be removed and to be with God trusting Him for all that is needed. I know He is with me now and I trust Him, and not myself, for everything as we walk together in this life and that is huge and so needed! When I am at my most unsure, He knows – and in His knowing, I am comforted and strengthened as I turn to Him.
***GREATER CONFIDENCE Dear heavenly Father, for most of my life I have tried to earn Your love and gain Your approval, and I felt that whatever I tried to do was never enough. In fact, the more I tried to get You to love me, the more I felt that I failed You miserably. As I look back on the mission trips, ministry activities, times of prayer, and Bible studies, I see that I believed that I must be disappointing to You. I believed I wasn’t doing as much as I ought to do. Father, it saddens me to realize what an incorrect perception I had of You and Your love for all who are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Father, forgive me for misrepresenting Your Father-heart of love, and thank You for showing me that Your love for me does not depend on what I can do for You but rests entirely on what the LORD Jesus did for me on the cross. I am accepted in the Beloved because I am a new creation in Christ, clothed in His righteousness and without condemnation. All because of Jesus. Father, thank You for this liberating truth. May I never again be drawn into wrong thinking about Your Father-heart of love, and may I gain greater confidence in and understanding of what my position in Christ truly means. This I ask in the precious name of my LORD Jesus Christ, who died for me that I might be free from any condemnation and receive Your everlasting love. Praise His holy name. “Prayer for Greater Confidence in God’s Love,” prayer.knowing-jesus.com. Adapted.***
