The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18.
And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 62: To own the title King. Psalm 2:6: But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain. And, Matthew 2:2: Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.
It’s a little strange when you first begin to sense Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. His Spirit prompting your spirit is unlike anything you hear in a world fallen and losing its way. It’s easy to question if it’s His voice or just your own voice speaking to you saying what you want to hear. But there is a steadiness He brings. I watched the news in our country last night and truly felt as though our world is unraveling. Conspiracies to overthrow our government that didn’t sound real or true. Then I was reminded of being a teenager during the Vietnam War, living close to D.C. in Maryland, and finding to my shock that the leaders of the anti-war movement were wanting ultimately to destabilize and overthrow our government, even as the slogan was peace not war. Those of us just wanting the war to end wanted something very different. I couldn’t bear to see on the news last night the coverage of the crowds surrounding the spectacle of the UFC cage fighting event for entertainment on the very grounds of the White House. Another unraveling that felt hollow and so very wrong.
Do we even hunger and thirst for righteousness anymore? Do we want to know God? Or is the only thing we care about this world as it is and the events unfolding right now? Do we believe blindly everything this world is telling us and have we lost the capacity to discern good from evil? There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. The naive believes everything, but the sensible man considers his steps. A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil. But a fool is arrogant and careless. Proverbs 14:12, 15-16. I was very naive as a teenager and God has been very kind and faithful. The wounding and pain I experienced in discovering the ugly truth behind the anarchy then, led to deep, disorienting despair and God in His mercy did not leave me there. And He’s helping me see now today that anarchy – is ugliness against His truth being played out in a myriad of different ways in our fallen world we live in. It’s easy to lose faith in flawed leaders and systems, and, to be deeply wounded by actions of others bent only on destroying. We see it all over our world. But this world is not all there is, as it is right now. My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to My sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:20-23. When we allow ourselves to be led by God something beautiful comes to life in us. The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105. As you turn to Creator God in trust and hope, He will guide your steps. And that is so needed as we navigate a world that no longer makes sense in itself. It was never meant to without God. But our God is kind and faithful and He doesn’t leave us to flounder in darkness. If you, too, are looking at our world and are wondering what is happening, welcome. You are in good company. Know Creator God IS and we are loved. He knows the mess we live in. He knows we need Him for understanding that is true and good and eternal – and His righteousness lights the way forward with Him that shines brighter and brighter in a dark world until that day He returns and we will all come to know Him and the love He brings. It is so worth walking with Him now because we have so much we need to understand and He is the One who teaches us. How can we know it’s Him teaching us? He turns us away from darkness toward His Love, His patience, His faithfulness in all things. Corruption is not love. Anarchy is not love. Violence is not love. God IS Love and for that we can give thanks for the beautiful life He brings. Let the truth of God and His love bless you and by extension those you love as you learn to walk in His love leading you.

I did it again! I forgot to include the prayer at the end of the blog. INTO YOUR HANDS I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I pray that You will also keep me this day from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself – my body and soul and all things. Let Your holy angels be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen. Martin Luther (1483-1546).
