Closer Than All of Life Is God’s Love for Us

In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, “You will keep on hearing, but will not understand; you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive; for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.” Matthew 13:14-15.

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience, joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9-14.

And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 39: Time: “I shall see him, but not now.” Numbers 24:17: “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star shall come forth from Jacob, a scepter shall rise from Israel, and shall crush through the forehead of Moab, and tear down all the sons of Sheth.” And, John 1:14; Galatians 4:4: And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law.

In the United States, this is Memorial Day weekend for Memorial Day on Monday. And I give thanks for all the men and women who gave of their time and dedication to serve this country which encompassed even the giving of their very lives for us. And in a broader sense, I can’t help but give thanks for all the men and women throughout time who were faithful to Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, even to the giving of their lives as a witness for the only true God. Which brings us to the Father and Son and Spirit who give everything for us, even to the giving of the life of the Son, Creator God. Lately with God’s help, I’ve been realizing everything that is not real. Politics is not real. Hate in all its forms is not real. Pride in all its forms is not real. Greed in all its forms is not real. Power in all its human forms is not real. They are not real – but their devastating impact is very real. Their far-reaching impact stops our ears so that you will keep on hearing, but will not understand; you will keep on seeing but will not perceive. What do we hear and see? Politics, hate, pride, greed, human power corrupting everything. Why else would we not turn to God to be healed? But when we do turn to God? But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. Matthew 13:16-17. Living in this world is not easy! But closer than all of this life is God’s love for us. In His Love He is making the way for us that leads to what is eternal and is real: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17. Do we think He will save us so we can continue in all the things that are not real?
