And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12 KJV.
Look at the birds of the air…consider the lilies of the field. Matthew 6:26, 28.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9.
God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us”…So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26-27.
And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 34: The Blood – the life of the flesh. Leviticus 17:11: For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. And, Matthew 26:28; Mark 10:45: For this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.
Increasingly I find myself troubled not only by events in our world but also by turmoil deep within me that rises up so effortlessly. And I know they are connected. How can we not be troubled when our world is troubled? And He tells me to not be afraid of the coming storms and to remember the light of His love. He will guide me. And reading the first Scripture verse cited above in Hearing God by Dallas Willard, it was so appropriate to how we feel when we are unmoored by things too big for us. Elijah had just been a powerful witness for the people to trust only in God. And the vindictive queen wanted his death. I can only imagine everything Elijah experienced within his very soul in all that turmoil that felt like earth-shattering wind, like an earthquake, like fire. And I can’t help but wonder when will we, as a people living today, see the distressing events throughout our world for what they truly are – our collective deep need for Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – and turn to Him? For it is as we turn to Him that we are able to hear His still, small voice speaking within our own spirit deep us within where it takes intention to even listen. He is not in the turmoil – our world is. He is in the peace He speaks to our hearts that gives us strength and hope that nothing in our fallen world can imitate. Remember the light of His love speaking gently to you in every raging storm and give thanks and listen because His words are true and God is faithful. Always!
