Leave Room for Closeness With God

We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding…giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Colossians 1:9, 12.

It has not yet been revealed what we shall be. 1 John 3:2.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105.

If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 1 Timothy 6:8-9.

And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies, promises of God, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 19: Messiah to come before Judah lost identity. Genesis 49:10: The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. And, John 11:47-52: Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is performing many signs. If we let Him go on like this, all men will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

The second Scripture verse cited above was from My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers and in it he said, “Our natural inclination is to be so precise – trying always to forecast accurately what will happen next – that we look upon uncertainty as a bad thing. We think that we must reach some predetermined goal, but that is not the nature of the spiritual life. The nature of the spiritual life is that we are certain in our uncertainty…Certainty is the mark of the commonsense life – gracious uncertainty is the mark of the spiritual life…When we become simply a promoter or a defender of a particular belief, something within us dies. That is not believing God – it is only believing our belief about Him…If our certainty is only in our beliefs, we develop a sense of self-righteousness, become overly critical, and are limited by the view that our beliefs are complete and settled…Jesus said, “Believe also in Me” (John 14:1), not, “Believe certain things about Me.” Leave everything to Him and it will be gloriously and graciously uncertain how He will come in – but you can be certain that He will come. Remain faithful to Him.”

How does that translate into our everyday lives? It means trusting Him for all we can’t know. To trust Him we need to leave room in our own being to be with Him, for how else can we know Him? I realized this morning as I settled into my morning routine of spending time with God, that I am so blessed to be able to have this routine time, this sacred time, with Him. Not everyone has that time. But as you do find moments not rushed and demanding, take time to be still and be with Him. Let your heart and mind be awakened to His Presence with you. Let go. Be with Him. Be surprised in the peace you find He gives. I don’t know about you, but I’m so tired of “Exhausting Me”. The biggest part of me that exhausts even myself as I needlessly analyze every tiny nuance and thought. I need closeness with God and I need Him to show me how to be fully present with Him expecting only Him. This world with all its demands pulls constantly. But in quiet moments, be with God who loves you and will guide your spirit into His peace. Did Caiaphas understand what he said to the council? Was he thinking only narrowly of his own people? Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. I love that…”that He might also gather together into one – the children of God.” That’s us. I want to give up my ideas of all that I think God will do because my ideas are so meager compared to Creator God – Father, Son, Holy Spirit. And for that I give thanks and praise to Him! We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding…giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light!
