There Is Strength of Hope In Following God

If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 4:11.

God called to him…And he said, “Here I am.” Exodus 3:4. “…that they may be one just as We are one.” John 17:22.

You are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you…The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8: 9, 11.

And continuing our 351 Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 9: The Last Supper foreshadowed. Genesis 14:18: And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High. And, Matthew 26:26-29: While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

How do we know these things are true and continuing today? By listening to Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. Every one of us has doubts and worries and shame and confusions. The disciples lived and were taught by Jesus, the Son, and yet they struggled to understand this amazing new reality which is exactly what was foretold, God With You. The prophets of old, the people who chose to trust God whom they could not see, experienced those same questions deep within. What if it’s just me and not God? I think that’s why the nations then and even people living today choose to worship something physical they can see; or choose to trust in their own self apart from God. In the devotional today by Henri Nouwen, he talked about the heart being the seat of everything in us. I picture the heart beating steadily with its chambers and valves and rhythms in perfect sync until they beat irregularly and then cease to beat at all. It is the only part of our body working outside of our conscious control. Then – I think of our spirit. Deep within. Because what I knew as a young child loving God was something deep within and that knowing sustained me even when I tried to turn away in all my teenage conflated knowing. Our spirit within cries out for understanding and to whom can it call except to its very Creator and Sustainer? And as we cry out to God, He hears. Jesus said in this world we will have tribulations and they are confusing and distressing and messy. He also said we have Him and that He will never leave us. God brings to our spirits stability and peace and hope which leads us to joy shared with Him. The children of Israel in the wilderness desert, between 2 to 3 million, could not provide food or water for themselves. They needed to learn they could trust the provision God gave, who delivered them from slavery to Egypt. What lessons do we need to learn today about humanity’s slavery to sin that the Israelites’ slavery to Egypt was the archetype? It begins in the beginning where the Last Supper was foreshadowed to be given by Jesus to His disciples to show the way God Himself provides for us, and we remember and celebrate deeply every time we partake today with Him. Abraham trusted God. So can we. Even today. Even tomorrow. Even into all eternity with Creator God and – with all who came before us. Can you imagine what that will be like? It’s good to try and then to succeed with God helping us. There is a reason we and all of creation was created. Let’s go deep with our Creator God – Spirit to spirit!
