Then Elisha prayed: “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17 NRSV.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:29-30.
I will be your God throughout your lifetime – until your hair is white with age. Isaiah 46:4.
And continuing in the Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we come to number 5: Seed of Abraham will bless all nations. Genesis 12:3: And the Lord said to Abram…And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed. And, Galatians 3:8: The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” Acts 3:25-26: It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, “And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.
Can we begin to see the continuation of the story foretold of all of us, that continues still? Looking around at our world today where we cannot be sure of anything we are told, still, we can see with our eyes and be impacted by events we have no control over. The world is rushing to house vast centers for “artificial intelligence”, but all that information is only what is put in by programmers and we are left to assume the information is accurate before it builds upon itself. Elisha’s servant assumed they were going to die as he saw the armies of Syria surrounding them. Elisha knew better. He knew Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. So can we! This fallen world will continue its mad rush toward more and more untruth apart from its Creator, of lies, and violence, and wars and destruction. We can’t stop that. But we can listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit bringing calm into our own hearts and minds so in need of our Creator and Savior. Did we catch that? God…preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham…all the nations will be blessed in you…and God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you…by turning every one of you from your wicked ways. Jesus Himself told them, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM.” John 8:56-58. As we begin to connect the prophecies of the Old Testament with the life of the Word made flesh, we delight to see what Abraham rejoiced to see – Creator God actively working to bring His kingdom so that all will be blessed in the truth of God’s love and faithfulness. The gospel of the kingdom of God.
