You are my lamp, O Lord, the Lord turns my darkness into light. 2 Samuel 22:29.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20.
Living in this world as we do, as all of our ancestors have lived, we partake in something so incredible…life. We are surrounded by creation that includes all of us. It means something and increasingly I am realizing that all of the experiences good and bad, confusing and enlightening, lead us Home to Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit; because our lives are a journey to the pathway of knowing Him. Jesus tells us, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” John 14:6. I keep thinking about why there is evil in this world and why there is such hope and beauty. They are not random, there is a purpose in them, and with God’s help we can begin to learn and grow in understanding He gives. Last night in our Zoom meeting, we watched the episode of The Chosen where the disciples and Jesus have just returned from the stoning they received from the religious leaders, and are then going to the home of Lazarus who has died. They are frightened and confused by experiences they could not have anticipated happening in the way they are unfolding. And it brought home to me, through this dramatic plausible depiction, that even with Jesus right there with them, they still couldn’t grasp the truth He was plainly telling them. How could they? They were not God. This life is filled with confusion. It’s not easy. And in the abundance today of ever-changing information bombarding us always, remember there is Truth and it is not our Truth. It is the Truth of Creator God and it will always be Truth for all eternity. That is the needed starting point toward understanding that our life experiences ultimately lead us to. The Truth of God has the ring of rightness to it that nothing else speaks to so faithfully.
And in our chapter, Obadiah, we come to the final second part, v. 17-21. “But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and Jacob will possess his inheritance. Jacob will be a fire and Joseph a flame; Esau will be stubble, and they will set him on fire and destroy him. There will be no survivors from Esau.” The Lord has spoken. People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau, and people from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin will possess Gilead. This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan will possess the land as far as Zarephath; the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of the Negev. Deliverers will go up on/from Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord’s. I don’t understand the verse in its completion about Esau. I feel like the disciples so often when I read Scripture. I don’t have God’s Truth. But I have God. His love is our protection and with love always, He corrects what needs to be corrected and brings understanding to light in hearts seeking Him. And the Truth of God’s love never changes. But on Mount Zion will be deliverance…it will be holy…And the kingdom will be the Lord’s. God’s love is holy. Esau did not act in the way of God’s holy love, and neither do we! But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ. Romans 3:21-24. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. Romans 3:28-31. We don’t have that kind of love within us and that’s why we see the problems in this world today. But Creator God is that kind of love and it is faith in His love that saves. God is love. Imagine all the wrongs that have been done in the history of mankind….can you make them right and bring healing that lifts us all up out of the confusion and sin? Jesus, the Son, came to do the Father’s Will. And remember, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really know Me, you will know My father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him. John 14:6-7. Why did they stone Jesus and the disciples? Because Jesus told them He and the Father are one. Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in My Father’s name testify about Me, but you do not believe because you are not My sheep. My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:25-30. God’s love is our protection and help always…and His work is being done now in hearts turned to Him for understanding not found in this broken world. Will Esau be saved? Will you and I be saved? I leave that to Creator God who knows. And in the here and now before Jesus, the Son, returns? I read His words of Scripture written for all of us with His help to understand; I pray to Creator God and bring to Him all of my concerns and all of My praise that He created and made all of this, including all of us, possible along with all of His beautiful creation! And with all of that…I listen to His voice leading me forward with Him on our path to eternity! There is nothing like the love and help you can receive with Creator God. He’s here. He’s ready!
