When they arrived, they called the church together and related all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles. Acts 14:27 NRSV.
He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. Isaiah 25:8.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? 1 Corinthians 6:19.
Can we begin to grasp the whole point of all things? Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – is all we need. He is everything we need. And He provides all that is necessary in our lives. This psalm, Psalm 48, speaks to that truth. Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain…for – he – has shown himself to be her fortress…v. 1, 3. When we comprehend what we are and whose we are…Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love, v. 9. And when we meditate on God’s unfailing love, Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness…Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments…For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. v. 10, 11, 14.
Why do we resist God’s unfailing love? So we can be independent of Him? How is that working for you and for our world so broken without Him? This battle we rage…keeping our independence fiercely; and hating the very brokenness our fierce independence brings. Do you love war? Do you love violence? Do you love hate? Do you love stealing? Do you love lies? What is our alternative? The one thing needed…to put a very fine point on it – we need God. We need God’s love showing us how to love Him and one another. He will be our Guide. We just need to turn to Him and trust Him to know the way forward with Him. And then understand with His help that this love He has for us – He has for all of us. Our broken world does not know how to love all of us. Thank You, Sovereign Lord, that You do.
