Let God’s Love Be In You

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.God is love.Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.1 John 4:15-16.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.Matthew 6:33-34.

There are times when I read the psalms and cringe at the rawness in them. And then I find myself needing God and understand the desperation. Psalm 13 shows us the desperation of David asking How long…4 times in this very short prayer…How long Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in myheart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? v. 1, 2. David pleads for light for his eyes, v. 3. When you are angry, or in despair or pain, or overwhelmed by life itself, do you not plead for light for your eyes? Light that does not bring pain but light that illuminates the goodness of God. Is that not what we truly seek? But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me. v. 5, 6.

As I read the psalms this time around, I’m letting the psalmist’s words speak the truth of our condition. There is evil in our fallen world and we are not immune. When our eyes are opened to just how bad the evil is that causes endless harm, we begin to understand the need that drove the psalmist and now us to our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. God’s love is unfailing. The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.1 Peter 4:7, 8. David and Peter had something life-giving in common. They knew they were sinners…they knew they were forgiven…they knew Who their Savior was and it wasn’t themselves. Lord…how long? As long as it takes to turn to God, ask for His help and then take His hand as He leads you forward with Him. Don’t be surprised by the changes you experience. Let God be God. You need Him as He is. So do I!

  1. Hello! I’m trying to understand various religious philosophies of life. Being non-christian, I would like to know what it means to know God the Christian way. So, I noticed there’s a wide range of Bibles available at range. But I’m confused which one would be the best fit for me. Mind to help?

    • What I would recommend is to go to biblegateway.com  You can type in any Scripture verse that you have read or seen in any blog that speaks to you and choose any translation from the drop-down menu. That way, you can see the various translations and know which one is easiest for you to understand. As you read the same verse in different translations, see which one speaks to your heart. My Bible is the NIV Life Application Study Bible (New International Version). I like it because it gives the history as well as how to apply what the Bible says on each page. My recommendation, too, is to pray. Ask God to help you. Tell God you are new to understanding His word, Scripture, and want His help.  I have read the Bible many times but when I was about to start all over at Genesis 1 again, I told God I didn’t just want to read the words again. I wanted to know Him. I asked God to help me know Him in the pages of His words to us. I am still learning and it is so good! Thank you for reaching out and I hope this helps!
