Holiness

Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16.

God has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. 2 Timothy 1:9.

I have been away from blogging because our youngest grandkids needed us to babysit them; and then because of some kind of virus that has me laid low at a time when I so want to be with my sister to help her. Do you ever feel low when you are sick? I am not strong when I am sick. I am ready to give up and at the same time I realize how absurd that sentiment is when others I care about are enduring life-affecting sickness, cancer, arthritic pains. And not just physical sickness, but doesn’t it feel as though this world is sick? I find myself more and more praying for the people of this world, especially those who are determined to sin and harm others by their actions. Think of the billions of people alive today and the people affected by the actions of others that bring great harm. That’s why Jesus told us to pray for our enemies. You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:43-48.

What does prayer do? Prayer matters! Prayer heals, guides, transforms thoughts, and is needed time with God. How we need God’s guidance in this world so lost in hate and lies.

God is Holy. The answer to every single problem this world faces is God’s Holiness. His Holiness heals us and transforms us in His Love. His Love is His grace given to us. When I take my mind off of myself and turn my eyes to God, I find His comfort and strength lifting me. I can feel His Love and care and know the wisdom of His timing in all things. Not my timing…not my will; Your will, Lord, Your timing. Help us to keep our eyes on You and trust You for all things that we may be Your sons and daughters growing in grace and truth and Your Love. Help us to understand what it is to be Holy as You are Holy and take Your hand so You can lead us to a life that is good with You. Help us to love others because they, too, are Yours. We can’t do this alone, Lord. Thank You for helping us. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for guiding our hearts and minds to You, our Holy, Loving Creator God.
