You have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Colossians 3:9-10.
Last night before I fell asleep I was thinking about all of the people we read about in Scripture whose lives were changed abruptly and forever when God entered into their lives. They were called for a special purpose for all of us so that we could share in the knowledge of our Creator.
How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? John 5:44.
The old self.
Nothing in Scripture is wasted. In our chapter, 1 Chronicles 22, David realizes that the threshing floor of Araunah where the angel of the Lord stopped at God’s command is where the temple will be built. Then David said, “The house of the Lord God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel.” v. 1.
God is helping me to see that nothing is wasted. God was telling me this morning that all of creation declares His glory and love. Then a noisy truck rolled past outside on our busy street and He shared – even that! The noisiness of His children with all of our imperfections is loved.
David had a heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord his God but God had a different plan. His son, Solomon, would build the house for the Name of the Lord and God Himself would grant peace and quiet during Solomon’s reign. v. 6-10.
We each of us live our lives and make our plans and then something tugs at our hearts and calls to us. David was helping his officials and us to ponder deeper connection with our Creator God. He said to them, “Is not the Lord your God with you?” v. 18. What do we do? Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. v. 19. Not our will but His will for us as we live our lives.
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10. Our plans are so much fuller and richer when we seek communion with God. What is communion? The sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level. When we share ourselves with God we seek intimacy with God who calls to our hearts and what we find is our Home with Him. Being Home with God is to live more fully this present life because He shows us we are loved and living in God’s love changes everything. Let go of control, embrace imperfections – and love. God has us.

There are so many distractions in this world, thus we need to practice spiritual disciplines, applying them often. May we never lose sight of His Word and purpose for us!
Thank you sister, God bless you today 🙏

So true Alan! My first step was to realize I didn’t need to compulsively check my phone all the time…and then to sit in quiet for 5 minutes felt like an eternity. It took time to slow and let God’s thoughts gently drift in and out. I remember one winter day a few years ago and the ice and snow positively sparkled! I sat there for most of the day just marveling at the beauty and letting it speak to my heart for God’s love for me. Each encounter makes me want more of God! Spiritual Disciplines help us stop living only for this world that is temporary so we will know God when we meet Him at our end of this present time. We live in the Now and the Not Yet but it can be filled with Him!
