Can you imagine what it must be like to be God? The most interesting, fascinating Being who created everything we see and everything we can’t see; who created us in His image and likeness and surrounded us with the beauty of His creation…and His people turn their back on Him and bow down to images that are dead, that are made of wood, stone, of things that were themselves created by His wonderful wisdom and love…and call that god.
In this day and age I fear the very thing we worship is ourselves. We think our opinions are the only ones that matter. We provide for ourselves, thank you very much…out of things we did not and cannot create. Look around. What do you see? Can you spend a day wondering what it would be like to love God?
I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. Leviticus 26:11-12. Can we wake up to the reality of God’s love? Verses 14-39 describe exactly what happened to the people when they turned away from God. Over and over and into today.
This morning in prayer responding to His love which was palpable and so real, my thoughts went to our son and I felt a beautiful cord of warmth and love connecting us together…me, our son, God. That’s what love does. It connects us in warmth and possibility. Without that love, God’s love, we flounder in the cold. Only with God’s love is it possible to love “others” in this world. Look around. Is there much love in this world? Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the Lord their God. But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord. v. 44-45.
Present tense…I am the Lord. His love is eternal and so beautiful I’m not sure we fathom it. I love our children deeply but God loves them more. My prayer is that He wakes us up and opens our hearts and minds to the warmth and depth of His love that fills up and spills over to the deepest recesses of our being. Wake up! You need Him and He loves you…present beautiful tense. Can you imagine how fascinating God is? Let your heart be drawn to Him. He’s here. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them. John 14:15-21. Can you imagine…wake us up, Lord!

A very thoughtful post Maureen. If He awakens our heart to the reality of His love, even a little bit, it would blow our mind. The song comes to mind, “Open My Eyes Lord, I Want to See Jesus.”
