Be Open To God’s Love For You

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. 2 Samuel 22:31.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:1-4.

Have you ever wanted to sit down and talk with God? The amazing thing is – you can. At any moment, in any need, talk with Him. He knows what is in your heart.

Reading the psalms is like listening in to a conversation between God and the psalmist. In this psalm, Psalm 106, the psalmist is recounting the history of Israel’s unfaithfulness. Yesterday I was randomly thinking about the children of Israel and how they complained; and I realized I don’t want to waste time and energy complaining. Is my complaining any different than theirs? I…we…have been so blessed. How can we complain about anything? Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare his praise? v. 1-3. Can you? Can you proclaim the mighty acts of God or even fully understand all of His blessings and then declare His praise? Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise. We have sinned, even as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. v. 3-6. And this next verse says it all for all of us…When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. v. 7. They gave no thought to our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. Are we thoughtless about God? The rest of the psalm is the recounting of what Israel was capable of as they turned away from God. What are we capable of as we turn away from God? This is not just a psalm about Israel. Israel is a type of all of us.

And yet, when we allow ourselves to be open to God’s amazing love for us, our lives change. We realize we are not alone and that our life is so much better when we share everything with God. Burdens are lifted. Blessings are not taken for granted. We begin to understand how vital love is. We long to have conversations with God and listen as He answers. We enjoy sharing that love with others because its wonderful to talk about God and His love for all of us. Can you not see how wonderful is God’s love? I titled this blog To Take The Hand of God because that is what being with God is like. As you learn more about God you begin to realize how much you want to know and understand. He is our greatest treasure and everything He does is good. In this world is so much that is not good. Take heart. God the Son overcame the world and all of its sins. And He did that for us to show us the Father’s love. And He sent His Spirit to guide us forward with Him to show us how to delight in our God. Be open to His love. Let His love surround you and then take His hand and let Him guide you. He is patient, He is kind. He loves you. Can you imagine in this world anything better?
