Oh Happy Day

Worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water. Revelation 14:7 NKJV.

Yesterday we watched the Kentucky Derby. Not for gambling, not for the beautiful hats but for the beautiful thoroughbred horses. And then we watched the movie Secretariat about the most amazing thoroughbred of all. My favorite part was when they were washing Secretariat and the song Oh Happy Day was playing. Even Secretariat was bobbing his head along with the music! Oh Happy day…when Jesus washed…He washed my sins away…Oh Happy Day!

Last night in prayer I couldn’t help but thank our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, that we did not create Him. Isn’t that the point of idols? We create what we want to worship. I want to worship God and I want Him to lead us in understanding. That day will come…Oh Happy Day! And our psalm, Psalm 100, so brief…but says it all…Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

No idol could have made Secretariat or you or me! Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane? Do you make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting? It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray. It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword. The quiver rattles against its side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. At the blast of the trumpet it snorts, ‘Aha!’ It catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry. Job 39:19-25.

No idol has ever asked us those questions.

Oh Happy Day!
