Let The Lord Be Your Companion Again

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14.

There is something special about the love of a child. Uncomplicated. Heartfelt. Trusting. As I sat in prayer this morning listening in silence, God brought to my remembrance those moments of joy in simple things…laying on the grass watching butterflies among beautiful flowers, laying on the grass looking up at white clouds racing in blue skies, seeing lightning bugs light up the quiet summer evening, sitting under trees and feeling the breeze all around me. And He was there with me. Our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, has been my companion journeying with me always. I had a heart of wonder as a child and it was wonderful. And now my body has aged and I am no longer young but I am filled with wonder anew because I am rediscovering joy in being with my Companion. We remember together. We journey together.

And our psalm, Psalm 92, expresses that joy in loving our God who opens our world up to His Presence and goodness. It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp…For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done…How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!…v. 1-5. Do we ever stop to give thanks for goodness, for holiness that brings us out of the darkness of despair and sin? Just as stark a difference between light and dark is the difference between holiness and sin. Who do you want to walk with, to journey with? The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright, he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” v. 12-15.

The world of good opens up as we have a conversation with our God. We find a companion who has journeyed with us always. We were not aware as life became more and more complex and demanding. But our heart remembers! Sometimes its good to sit in stillness and remember moments of joy and wonder. Don’t be surprised if God joins you and brings to mind things you forgot but He remembers fondly. It’s good to talk with God. Its good to sit in quiet stillness with Him and be with Him. He doesn’t ask is to do. He asks us to be with Him. Being with Him our heart remembers! Being with Him is to love Him and to know He loves you.
