Let God’s Love Lead You

In these last days God has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. Hebrews 1:2-3.

I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation. Psalm 13:5.

In our chapter, Matthew 22, Jesus, the Son, continues to teach in parables what the kingdom of heaven is like. Imagine a king throwing a wedding banquet for his son, where food and wedding clothes are provided so all can enjoy and celebrate with the joy of the king and the son. In his joy he sends out his servants to tell the invited guests to come, that everything is ready and in great anticipation – and then having the invited guests refuse to come. Can you imagine the hurt and disappointment? But all has been made ready so the king sends out his servants to invite anyone they find. And they come! But one man wasn’t wearing the wedding clothes that were provided for him. So he was thrown out. “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” v. 1-14. It was customary for a king to provide everything including wedding clothes. But this parable is about the Father, and the wedding feast for His Son. The clothes Creator God provides for us? I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of His righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14. So the Pharisees, the Herodians and the Sadducees in their turn try to trip of Jesus. First with whether to pay taxes to Caesar; then marriage in heaven; and finally with what is the greatest commandment, given that over 600 civil laws were added through the years; v. 15-40. By these questions can we begin to see how the confusion of our own reasoning twists everything? Creator God brings clarity. But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap Me? Show Me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought Him a denarius, and He asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then He said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” v. 18-21. And, Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead – have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’.(Exodus 3:6). He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” v. 29-32. And, Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. (Deut. 6:5). And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Lev. 19:18). All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” v. 37-40. And finally, Jesus questions them. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is He?” “The son of David,” they replied. He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord’? For he says, ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “‘Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”‘ (Psalm 110:1). If then David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how can He be his son?” No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask Him any more questions. v. 41-46. In the notes below it said that the Pharisees knew from Scripture that the Messiah would be a descendant of David, but not that He would be God Himself. How could they have understood that until Jesus, the Son, born of a virgin by the Spirit, came? How? Scripture. For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. For He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:6-7. Can we begin to understand all we don’t understand? How will we be able to put on the wedding clothes Creator God provides if we have never trusted Him? Have you ever tried to explain God to anyone? Creator God Himself is able to bring the light of His love and His truth into hearts and minds. God is Love. Let Him lead you! The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this! Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and Love your neighbor as yourself. A beautiful starting point. And as we do, we discover the joy of Creator God and we rejoice and delight in Him! When you stop to truly consider all of this…it is too big for us! That’s why we need Him.
