Do You Trust God for Those You Love?

How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:103-105.

We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 NKJV.

Our chapter, Habakkuk 3, is the final chapter of this book. Each of these prophets were the last ones to speak God’s words to the people until John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, the Son. And the vacuum of silence of hearing God’s prophets lasted 400 years. And now Habakkuk gives a prayer of thanks. He has asked Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, why He allows evil and God has answered that evil is never the last word. Evil endures as humans engage in evil acts. One day He will return and evil will be no more. Isn’t that what we pray for deep in our souls, that evil will be no more? A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth. Lord, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and His praise filled the earth. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from His hand, where His power was hidden. He stood, and shook the earth; He looked and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills collapsed – but He marches on forever. I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish. Were You angry with the rivers, Lord? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You rage against the sea when You rode Your horses and Your chariots to victory? You uncovered Your bow, You called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers; the mountains saw You and writhed. Torrents of water swept by; the deep roared and lifted its waves on high. Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of Your flying arrows, at the lightning of Your flashing spear. In wrath You strode through the earth and in anger You threshed the nations. You came out to deliver Your people, to save Your anointed One. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, You stripped him from head to foot. With his own spear You pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding. You trampled the sea with Your horses, churning the great waters. v. 1-15. When we truly stop to consider the history of all of us, steeped in violence; and then consider the creation Creator God created…how can we not be in awe? There is so much more going on than we see and think. I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nations invading us. Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. v. 16-19. How can Habakkuk or anyone say that? It can only be realized when we understand that Creator God IS. All that is endured and rejoiced in in this life we live in the flesh, is temporary. The way of this broken world will pass away. Each life is a sacred journey to Creator God. I am learning to trust Creator God for all of those I love; and in trusting Him for them, I am able to begin to learn how to trust Him for all of those He loves as well. When all is said and done, what will be left? We see mountains quake and give way now, we see oceans roar now, those living during the time of the crucifixion saw darkness cover the land for three hours (Matthew 27:45). Make no mistake. No human and no nation of men can save you for eternity. I will rejoice in the Lord….I will be joyful in God my Savior!
