Trust That God Will Be With You

When they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. Mark 4:34.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then He said, “Write this down, for those words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:3-5.

In our chapter, Jeremiah 48, we see the message from Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, about Moab. An order of things in the ancient world will be gone. “Make her drunk, for she has defied the Lord. Let Moab wallow in her vomit; let her be an object of ridicule. Was not Israel the object of your ridicule? Was she caught among thieves, that you shake your head in scorn whenever you speak of her? Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks, you who live in Moab. Be like a dove that makes its nest at the mouth of a cave. We have heard of Moab’s pride – how great is her arrogance! – of her insolence, her pride, her conceit and the haughtiness of her heart. I know her insolence but it is futile,” declares the Lord, “and her boasts accomplish nothing. Therefore I wail over Moab, for all Moab I cry out. I moan for the people of Kir Hareseth. I weep for you, as Jazer weeps, you vines of Sibmah. Your branches spread as far as the sea; they reached as far as Jazer. The destroyer has fallen on your ripened fruit and grapes. Joy and gladness are gone from the orchards and fields of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the presses; no one treads them with shouts of joy. Although there are shouts, they are not shouts of joy…Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied the Lord. Terror and pit and snare await you, you people of Moab,” declares the Lord…”Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the days to come,” declares the Lord. v. 26-33, 42-43, 47. There are two notes below that help us understand: “48:1 The Moabites were descendants of Lot through an incestuous relationship with one of his daughters (Genesis 19:30-37). They led the Israelites into idolatry (Numbers 25:1-2) and joined the bands of raiders Nebuchadnezzar sent into Judah in 602 B.C. They were later conquered by Babylon and disappeared as a nation. 48:7 Chemosh was the main god of the nation of Moab (Numbers 21:29), and child sacrifice was an important part of his worship (2 Kings 3:26, 27). God’s judgment made it clear that human-made resources and gods are no match for the Lord Almighty.”

Can we learn from what was written in Scripture? Only with God’s help and our willingness to learn. What we see in this broken world descended from all the broken civilizations that went before, is not all there is. We have hope that no man-made god or ideology can provide. How could you explain all that is and has been? In the deepest part of my being, I know that Creator God has always been with me. He gives me freedom to live my life and learn from those life lessons, good and bad. How else can we truly learn how hurtful our way is to ourselves and for one another? And when I called to Him in deep need, He was there. Always. Moab’s story is not over. Neither is ours. We have so much to be thankful for because we are loved by Creator God and no lesson we have lived will be wasted. We may feel shame and lost in the pain we have chosen or others have inflicted upon us; there are so many ways we can be broken and hurt deeply. The old order of things. That way, too, shall pass! It needs to pass and we need the healing only Creator God can bring in His infinite, healing Love! His Love, we can trust, always…for all eternity.
