Teach me Your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Psalm 27:11.
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8.
Heal my heart and make it clean Open up my eyes to the things unseen Show me how to love Like You have loved me Break my heart for what breaks Yours Everything I am For Your kingdom’s cause As I walk from earth into eternity – Words and Music by Brooke Ligertwood, from the song Hosanna. I thought of the words Break my heart for what breaks Yours as I read our chapter, Jeremiah 44. And in the notes below it said: “44:28 After Jeremiah’s forced move to Egypt, there is no word in the Bible about the events in the rest of his life.” In v. 1-14 Jeremiah shares the word of the Lord to the Jews living in Egypt who have continued to worship foreign gods. It’s the same message God gave Jeremiah in every chapter, and so needed. And their response as a group? Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present – a large assembly – and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah, “We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord! We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm. But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.” v. 15-19. Can we not see? They lived this and it was written so we could learn. There is so much hurt in this world and it’s so easy to fall prey to believing in what is not true….and thus living in slavery. And they died just as God said they would. And Pharaoh Hophra died just as Zedekiah king of Judah died in the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, v. 24-30. And Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, still reigns. And His will is still, and will always be, for our good in Him. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will – to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment – to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. Ephesians 1:1-10. And this…I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:15-21.
Do you trust God? Every experience of my life tells me I can. I will walk in faith with You, Lord, and trust You to lead me.
