So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18.
I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Ephesians 3:16-17.
There’s a difference in loving Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, in a superficial way that makes no demands on your understanding of Him; and in loving Him and being with Him. I loved this in Hearing God by Dallas Willard: “God’s spiritual invasions into human life seem, by their very gentleness, almost to invite us to explain them away, even while soberly reminding us that to be obsessed and ruled by the visible is death but that to give one’s self over to the spiritual is life and peace (Romans 8:6).”
In our chapter, Jeremiah 33, God speaks truth to Jeremiah. While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time: “This is what the Lord says, He who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it – the Lord is His Name: ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I slay in My anger and wrath. I will hide My face from this city because of its wickedness. Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal My people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security…I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against Me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against Me. Then this city will bring Me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’” v. 1-6, 8-9. It amazes me how much I want to limit God, to reign in. Don’t we all do that? Our group, our nation, our faith, our beliefs. God is limitless. The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “This is what the Lord says: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, then My covenant with David My servant – and My covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before Me – can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. I will make the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister before Me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’” “In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; He will do what is just and right in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.” v. 15-16.
What we see today is temporary. Creator God is eternal. Jesus the Christ is the Righteous Branch, He is the Lord Our Righteous Savior. The rulers of today are temporary. They are not worthy to do what is just and right in the land for all people. We have witnessed that over and over through all the history of mankind then and now. Just as the words of God came true in Jeremiah’s time, so will they come true when Jesus returns to rule in righteousness and holiness. And today and tomorrow as we see the sun rise and set…God says to us…Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. You can choose to live this life in closeness with God who loves you and me. It begins a walk of faith and trust as you realize how much you need Him and He is here always. Can you imagine the great and unsearchable things we will learn with Him leading us?
