Let God Draw You Near To Him

Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Psalm 105:3 ESV.

My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28.

Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18.

This morning in our Friday Zoom Retreat, it was such a blessing to be with people who are actively seeking closeness with Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. To be present with God. To quietly bring your soul back to the presence of God through the day. Sweet submission. Live alive to union with the Trinity. God involved. Those were some of the notes I jotted down as we talked. And what a difference that attitude of longing for and respect of God brings to our lives. And in contrast to that is our chapter, Jeremiah 26. God tells Jeremiah to Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word. Perhaps they will listen and each will turn from their evil ways. v. 2, 3. Jeremiah spoke all the words of the Lord at the courtyard of the Lord’s house, v. 1-6. They wanted to kill Jeremiah, v. 7-9. When the officials of Judah heard about these things, they went up from the royal palace to the house of the Lord and took their places at the entrance of the New Gate of the Lord’s house. Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!” v. 10-11. But Jeremiah wasn’t the only one and the words he told them were God’s words to them. Some of the elders of the land stepped forward and said to the entire assembly of people, “Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets.’” “Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah fear the Lord and seek His favor? And did not the Lord relent, so that He did not bring the disaster He pronounced against them? We are about to bring a terrible disaster on ourselves!”, v. 17-19. And in v. 20-23, Uriah son of Shemaiah was another who prophesied in the name of the Lord, and he was put to death by Jehoiakim. In the notes below it said, “Jesus also infuriated the religious leaders of His time by foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple (Matthew 24:2).” That destruction happened in 70 A.D. What does all of this mean? That’s a question it would be good to ask ourselves and to ask God.

This world today feels like it is spiraling out of control. Things are in motion we have no control over. And when I am overwhelmed and in fear, I let God draw me near to Him. With Him there is peace. That is God involved.
