But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. James 3:17 NRSV.
Holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. Hebrews 3:1.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love. Psalm 33:5.
There are times when it’s hard for me to see the unfailing love of Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit. When I see history repeating the same cruelties, it’s difficult to understand why we choose hate. And then I remember. Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30. And our chapter, Isaiah 56, shows us God’s unfailing love because He won’t exclude and He shows us what is possible. This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is close at hand and My righteousness will soon be revealed. Blessed is the one who does this – the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.” Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely exclude me from His people.” And let no eunuch complain, “I am only a dry tree.” For this is what the Lord says: “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, who choose what pleases Me and hold fast to My covenant – to them I will give within My temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever. And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to Him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be His servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to My covenant – these I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” The Sovereign Lord declares – He who gathers the exiles of Israel: “I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.” That is God’s unfailing love. What do we humans do? Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge…They are shepherds who lack understanding; they all turn their own way, they seek their own gain. v. 1-8, 10, 11. Without the love of God we can’t begin to understand.
Are you alarmed by the cruelty and violence we see being played out in our world broken by our choosing violence and cruelty? Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Gentle…humble in heart…The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy…thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love that will guide us to You! Help us to listen and be led by Your Spirit for only in You do we find rest for our souls hungering for what is true.
