People Can’t Be Controlled

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Proverbs 3:21-22.

Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him. Job 13:15.

The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace. Psalm 29:11.

The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7.

Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit, has been patient in showing me how fruitless it is to try to control every situation and outcome. I don’t have the wisdom or the whole story. What I do have is a growing trust in God who is leading me gently forward in this life I live. Choosing to live with God’s help, helps us see the futility of living without Him. And our chapter, Isaiah 47, predicts the fall of Babylon 150 years before it happened. Go down, sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, queen city of the Babylonians. No more will you be called tender or delicate…Sit in silence, go into darkness, queen city of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms. I was angry with My people and desecrated My inheritance; I gave them into your hand, and you showed them no mercy. Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke. You said, “I am forever – the eternal queen!” But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen…You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, “No one sees me.” Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, “I am, and there is none besides me.” Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you. v. 1, 5-7, 10-11. Babylon trusted in magic spells, sorceries, astrologers, v. 12-13. All of them go on in their error; there is not one that can save you. v. 15.

Do we ever consider why we believe the things we believe or do the things we do? And if I try to understand this world with its billions of people going their own way, my mind becomes confused and I can’t make sense of any of it. And then I return to God. His ways bring me peace. He is not confused and He doesn’t delight in sin or darkness and the confusion and hurt they bring. I can’t control people and God doesn’t want to control me. Let go, He tells me. He has us. Do you trust God? Do you know Him to be able to trust Him? Do you want to know God? Ask. He’s here. Always.
