Send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell. Psalm 43:3.
On my bed I remember You; I think of You through the watches of the night. Psalm 63:6.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7.
Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. Psalm 63:7 NKJV.
How do you explain to someone that it is Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit, who brings peace and understanding and comfort? We have our own ideas or the ideas of our families or churches or synagogues or mosques but those pale in comparison to the joy of knowing God and listening to Him. Before, I read Scripture on my own. I didn’t understand. But when I asked God to help me know Him, those words resonated deep within me. The starting point. And then, talking with Him in prayer often, releasing to Him my worries and fears; and then, stepping forward in trust that was built on His love given to me faithfully. When you undertake that greatest journey of all – to know God – you step with Him into eternity.
And you can read the prophecies of our chapter, Isaiah 33, and know God is at work then and at He is at work now. Woe to you, destroyer; you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, betrayer, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed. v. 1. In the notes below it said the “destroyer” is Assyria. How about any destroyer, how about the destroyer? That’s why we need God. Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress…The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with His justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. v. 2, 5-6. He will be the sure foundation for your times. That speaks to every age of mankind. And the times then and now? Look, their brave men cry aloud in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly. The highways are deserted, no travelers are on the roads. The treaty is broken, its witnesses are despised, no one is respected. The land dries up and wastes away, Lebanon is ashamed and withers; Sharon is like the Arabah, and Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves. v. 7-9. Does that sound familiar, would every age of mankind recognize this? “Now will I arise,” says the Lord. “Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up. You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you. The peoples will be burned to ashes; like cut thornbushes they will be set ablaze.” v. 10-12. People are so afraid of the wrath of God…how about the wrath of people and nations? You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge My power! The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?” v. 13-14. The love of God is a consuming fire that will burn away sin because sin enslaves us all. Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil – they are the ones who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress…Your eyes will see the King in His beauty and view a land that stretches afar. In your thoughts you will ponder the former terror; “Where is that chief officer? Where is the one who took the revenue? Where is the officer in charge of the towers?” You will see those arrogant people no more, people whose speech is obscure, whose language is strange and incomprehensible. v. 15-16, 17-19. And this…Look on Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. There the Lord will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them. v. 10-21. The former things will be no more. And God will be our wellspring of blessing. Pray for His Will in every heart because His Will is for our good in Him, and it is so very good!
