When Our Need Is Great

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 KJV.

Come to me. Matthew 11:28.

Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire but You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:23-26.

Have you encountered that place yet where you realize you have no control? And as you look around with eyes that see the violence, the suffering – where do you go? I don’t know if this is what Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit, meant in one of the verses of our chapter, Isaiah 26; but how could I not see it as that, that only God can bring us peace and hope, and that it is in Him alone and His to bring? I’ll jump to that verse first…Lord, they came to you in their distress; when You disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in Your presence, Lord. We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life. v. 16-18. The Children of Israel were to bring to the world understanding of God. They gave birth to wind. But that did not diminish God or His truth. “Christianity” was supposed to bring to the world understanding of God, do we give birth to wind? Does Islam? Do Buddhists? Do Atheists? Where do we go? Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal…The path of the righteous is level; You, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, Lord, walking in the way of Your laws, we wait for You; Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. My soul yearns for You in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for You. When Your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the Lord. v. 2-4, 7-10. Lest we think that our nation is righteous and brings righteousness…or any nation of human beings can, look around at this world of nations lost in violence…Lord, You establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished You have done for us. Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but Your name alone do we honor. v. 12-13. Our need in this world is great. But Your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise – let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy – Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until His wrath has passed by. See, the Lord is coming out of His dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer. v. 19-21.

When you come to that point where you realize you have no control, that no nation has control…you are ready to turn to God. Turn to Him for strength and the peace only He can give. Stay close to Him and He will be your help. When I go to Him in prayer with my thoughts in turmoil, and listen…He brings me His peace because I am with Him! He is Almighty, Creator God! He alone will bring Salvation to this world dying in its sins. Sin will be no more one day and until that day, we can turn to Him now and He will give understanding as we are able to understand now. I can’t imagine facing illness, violence, suffering, heartache, destruction of storms – without Him helping me.
