A Sea of Confusion

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. John 14:27.

I loved this prayer from Dallas Willard at the end of the passage this morning: “Pray: Ask God to prepare you to be a faithful, hopeful and loving conduit in your very nature between Himself and the hard places and rough situations around you and in the world.” Why did that resonate with me? Because without Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit, I am quickly lost and drowning in a sea of confusion that is this world’s ways. Looking at our chapter, Ecclesiastes 10, sets my teeth on edge and yet isn’t that the way of this world? God is not like the rulers of this world. Any of them. His ways are not our ways. As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor…There is an evil I have seen under the sun, the sort of error that arises from a ruler: Fools are put into many high positions, while the rich occupy the low ones…Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips. At the beginning their words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness – and fools multiply words…A feast is made for laughter, wine makes life merry, and money is the answer for everything…v. 1, 5-6, 12-14, 19.

When I consider how many are convicted that their way of following God is right, and there are so many ways…it becomes like so many waves swelling in a storm-tossed sea. I long to hear His voice. And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming…Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. All who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure. 1 John 2:28, 3:2-3. I don’t have the answers. God does. In a sea of confusion, His word brings me comfort and clarity when I let Him guide me to understanding. He speaks through His written word and through His Spirit speaking to our spirit hungering for His truth. Let His voice be the voice you long for as you walk with Him guiding you. His ways are not our ways. His ways are Good!
