Listen To Your Heart’s Cry

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2.

I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8.

There comes a time when we realize our deepest need cannot be met by anything in this world. We don’t have to look very far to see the confusion, the turmoil; and when we look to ourselves we are lost. There are no answers in me to the hardest questions of why. That’s when I go to Creator God – Father…Son…Spirit. I just want to be with Him in quiet. He meets me there and just being with Him calms my soul. This past Sunday in church we each of us received a copy of a hand-written letter which was 1 John 2:1-6. As our pastor reminded us, that is how it was written, as a letter from John the Apostle to the brethren. Just a little beyond those verses is this…Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. 1 John 2:7-8. How could it be an old command? Because Creator God is and He loves us.

And our chapter, Proverbs 15, continues couplets of wisdom contrasted with folly. Sometimes my heart, heavy burdened, needs to cling to the wisdom and let go of the foolishness so prevalent in this life. A gentle answer turns away wrath…The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge…The eyes of the Lord are everywhere…The soothing tongue is a tree of life…Whoever heeds correction shows prudence…The house of the righteous contains great treasure…Death and Destruction lie open before the Lord – how much more do human hearts…The discerning heart seeks knowledge…Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed…A person finds joy in giving an apt reply – and how good is a timely word!…v. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 13, 22, 23. A timely word…Wisdom’s instruction is love for the Lord, v. 33. There is more than enough fear in this world. I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of His name. 1 John 2:12. Can you imagine such love as this? We know what we are! So does our God. All of Scripture is a love letter showing us God’s love for you and me and for everyone. Do you hear your heart’s deepest cry? For the One who loves us and will lead us out of the darkness and into the true light already shining. The light of the truth of His love.
