In the Darkness of Uncertainty, Help Us Walk In the Light of Your Love

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29.

How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:103-105.

We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 NKJV.

Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, brings clarity to hearts opened to Him. He leads us in the way to be faithful because He is faithful. As I read the words of our psalm, Psalm 143, I realized that these words did not exist until David spoke them to God. Our very lives are a journey. What words are you speaking to God? These are David’s: Lord, hear my prayer; listen to my cry for mercy; in Your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring Your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before You. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all Your works and consider what Your hands have done. I spread out my hands to You; I thirst for You like a parched land. Answer me quickly, Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in You. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. In Your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am Your servant.

When we are hurting and in pain it helps to read words written to God that remind us He is faithful. These words so beautifully written by David show us what David knew deep in the depths of his soul. What is in the depths of our soul? God’s love. We may be wrecked with uncertainty and turmoil but our God is not. He is here helping us as we are able to listen, carrying us when we are not. Surrender. Surrender everything you cannot understand. Give it all to our God. When our own spirits grow faint within us, we are a parched land. God’s love, like living water, never goes out. When I think of a parched land I remember what Jesus told the woman at the well laboring to bring water daily to her home. The containers filled with water were heavy, the well far away. Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and Who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water…Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:10, 13-14. Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way to go, for to You I entrust my life…Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Living water…God’s love…refreshing and renewing us to Life lived with Him now and into eternal life with Him! David asked without reservation for God to come to his relief because he understood the difference between life without God and his life lived with God with him. You can know that difference. Water that keeps you thirsty will never truly satisfy. God’s love that is living and active within you brings clarity and understanding only God can give. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. How amazing and wonderful are the promises of our faithful God! Let the light of His love for you illuminate the living water of His Spirit within you guiding and loving you. You don’t have to walk in darkness. He’s here. Always.
