Turn To God and His Love

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5.

I loved this morning reading Hearing God by Dallas Willard where he shared what Bob Mumford wrote in Take Another Look at Guidance: “God wants to bring us beyond the point where we need signs to discern His guiding hand. Satan cannot counterfeit the peace of God or the love of God dwelling in us. When Christ’s abiding presence becomes our guide, then guidance becomes an almost unconscious response to the gentle moving of His Spirit within us.”

As we grow and mature into Christ’s presence abiding in us, we grow in trust for all Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, is doing. We stop questioning and instead we long for His will that is so good for all of us. Tonight we will watch the first of the Presidential debates and I have no doubt we will see in full display all of the human failings we cannot help but bring to the table. Failings that cannot bring the peace we long for. So we blame…we criticize…we complain…are we any different than the Children of Israel of millennia ago? Have we really changed?

And so our psalm, Psalm 132, speaks of the faithfulness of David’s devotion to God and of God’s faithfulness to His covenant promise. Lord, remember David and all his self-denial…He swore an oath to the Lord, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob; “I will not enter my house or go to my bed, I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.” v. 1-5. The writer said they heard it…“Let us go to His dwelling place, let us worship at His footstool, saying, ‘Arise, Lord, and come to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests be clothed with Your righteousness; may Your faithful people sing for joy.’” v. 7-9. Can we sing for joy for our God and for all He is? God gave a promise to David as well but David’s sons did not obey God just as all of humanity has shown an unwillingness to obey God. So God is proved faithful. The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath He will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.” v. 11-12. If. They didn’t. But God does. For the Lord has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling, saying, “This is My resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have chosen it. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. Here I will make a horn grow up for David and set up a lamp for My anointed One. I will clothe His enemies with shame, but His head will be adorned with a radiant crown.” v. 13-18.

If you desire in the deepest parts of your soul what is good, turn to God and His love and faithfulness. God will not disappoint you. As you walk with Him in His counsel, you will be enabled to trust Him for the good outcome for all of us only God can bring about in His wisdom and His love. God is faithful. God is love. How we all of us need His faithful love.
