The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. Habakkuk 3:19.
All things work together for good to those who love God and are drawn into His purposeful actions on earth. Romans 8:28 PAR.
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46.
When you think of God’s laws, what do you think of? All throughout this psalm, Psalm 119, the psalmist talks about Creator God’s – Father, Son, Spirit – law, precepts, statutes, commands, decrees. He’s talking about embracing a way of life that brings life that is good. It helps to think of the opposite of law – lawlessness. Where would you rather live? Truly. Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. v. 49. God’s word is our hope for what is good with Him and one another. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. v. 2. When we break the laws of God we suffer. God’s promise preserves our life in His love. You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes…Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. v. 57-59, 66. We can search throughout all of this world and not find wisdom that compares to the wisdom of God. And when we turn to Him for understanding, we can’t help but see the misery of life lived without Him. We can say with the psalmist who considered all of these things – Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands…I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. v. 73, 75-77. When you look around at the state of this world, how can you not see the difference between life lived with God and life lived in opposition to all that God is? God’s perfect law of love is given for our good. He is the One who helps us see and take comfort in knowing that He is in charge. Can we obey all of God’s commands perfectly? No. We can come to Him and ask for His help to understand why His love is so needed today. Life with God. Come and see the difference. He loves us. He helps us to love Him and one another. It all begins in His love given for our good.
