The Kingdom of God

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33 ESV.

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Matthew 6:33 MSG.

I wanted to share our Bible study on Zoom from this morning. A quick study by Bill Wells who shared what has become most important to him, the Kingdom of God which Jesus ushered in. Jesus told us to seek it above all else, and His righteousness, because that’s where Jesus is.

Again, I just want to share excerpts gleaned from Bill and those he gleaned from reading Dallas Willard…How Jesus taught the availability of the Kingdom of God to all…How Jesus described it…How Jesus manifested the Kingdom for us.

That all of creation does what creation was created to do – except us. Think of every thing in its’ kind doing what it was created to do and be; even the forces of nature. Fish don’t act like horses, thunder doesn’t act like the fields of grass. We were created in God’s image to be like Him, to be His children. Are we?

Jesus is access to the Kingdom of God for each one of us. He did that for us. When He tells us how to live Kingdom life do we believe Him or do we find it impossible to do and then dismiss Him? And yet, the Kingdom is more real than you and me who are here for an instant.

How do we enter into Kingdom of God life? We love and trust our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, for all things…and we love one another. As Bill said, being instead of doing is vital. Being with God always leads to doing and allows each of us to minister where we are. And that is what people most respond to…the love of God for them.

Bill referenced the articles daily showing people leaving churches. Why? They are not finding the truth of God’s love and rule here and now…the Kingdom of God. We see the kingdom of men. How is that working in this world of us? And yet, when we find a body of believers loving God and one another what a blessing this world hungers for! Be that body. Where you are. Show God’s love. You show God’s kingdom.

I said initially ours was a quick study because usually we all engage in sharing our thoughts and experiences in what was presented. After the study, Bill gave a prayer of thanks to God…and it was over! As I left the Zoom meeting, I watched and listened to the rain falling outside, the plants reaching toward the sky, and I reflected on the beauty of God’s Kingdom love for us and for all He created and I gave thanks. We don’t hear much about the Kingdom of God but as Bill pointed out, it’s mentioned 98 times in Matthew alone. Jesus ushered it in because Jesus is the Kingdom of God and where He is, there His Kingdom is to the glory of the Father. We can be there with Him now even as we live in the inferior kingdom of men. The Spirit shows us how by dwelling within us and leading us in His love always.
