We Are Because God Loves

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. Joshua 24:15.

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time – God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. 1 Timothy 6:12-16.

When you sit in stillness with God, you begin to notice the hum of life within your own body and then the hum of life as birds begin to stir to sing. You can feel the air you breathe go deep within. As I write this, the early morning sound of traffic is picking up. Noting each of these things after reading our psalm, Psalm 104, helps me realize we have life humming within and all around us because our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, creates. He is the Giver of Life. And the best part is that we are in Him…connected, loved, brimming with energy that He gives.

Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. v. 1-4. I love that…The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment. Have you ever tried to look directly at the sun? It’s painful! The psalmist goes on to describe all the things that God created and that we can take for granted when we don’t realize where those blessings come from. But when we do realize, when we are awakened to God’s love for us, we know. He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains…He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work…He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate – bringing forth food from the earth; wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts…He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down…How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures…All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time…When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground…I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord…But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more…v. 10, 13, 14, 19, 24, 27, 30, 33, 34 35.

These are the things the psalmist wrote. How about you? What moves your heart to praise the Lord? I think a wonderful starting point is realizing that we are here because God creates. He didn’t have to. And look at all He created! Praise the Lord, my soul! You do such beautiful amazing work! Thank You for my life humming within me because You give life. Thank You for waking me up to You! That is when our life truly begins!
