My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5.
I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psalm 16:8 AMP.
When we begin a walk with our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, there are so many questions. The Spirit leads us gently forward and only in looking back can we see how far we have come in understanding that doesn’t rest on human wisdom. And the one thing He continually tells us is that He is love. And He tells us to love one another. Jesus came to show us the Father’s love. Can you imagine making that choice from before the foundation of the world? Can you imagine the depth of that kind of love? I think the Apostle Paul is extremely wise but the wisdom he shared with us did not come from him. And he knew that no words could begin to be compared with the active Love that is our God. Paul described it. Jesus lived it.
And in our psalm, Psalm 102, the psalmist speaks to the aloneness we feel. For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers…My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food…In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones…v. 3-5. I think we each of us feel alone at times and in that aloneness we wonder why? Why am I here? Why this life? Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. v. 1-2. And the amazing thing is, when we call to our God in our distressed spirit, He answers. And the love in that is something so illuminating we are forever changed. We are loved by Almighty Creator God. We still stumble, we still fall, we still question but now we know Who to go to for understanding, for help, for strength. Just as the psalmists did, we can bring every concern, every trial, every need to God. The psalmists showed us, Paul showed us, our own hearts show us our need. And when we finally see our deepest need for God, we are not alone; He is here. Give Him everything. Surrender your worries, your fears, your doubts. Receive God’s love. His love is ongoing and enduring and the one thing that will last unshaken. In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you. v. 25-28.
When you come to know God and His love for you, surrender is not something scary because you finally realize we are not in control – at all. Our God is. And He is Love. Can you imagine? Only with Him.
