Through the Eyes of God’s Love

Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Psalm 62:8 NKJV.

Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:44-47.

Do we ever wonder how God sees us? He has seen it all. And He sees so much more than we do. I get overwhelmed with the mess in this world and fear what the near future brings. Not because of politics or religion – they are just symptoms. I fear for hearts growing cold and lost in the confusion of this life without understanding. Who can understand without the love of our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, showing them the way forward? Our psalm, Psalm 97, first acknowledges God…The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. v. 1-2. Righteousness and justice. If every person applied righteousness and justice according to what they believe them to be, what would it look like? Would it look like the righteousness and justice of God? The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory…For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods…v. 6, 9. The woman in the 2nd Scripture verses above knew the Son’s righteousness and fell at His feet and wept tears and poured perfume…she understood what Simon would not. Can we see the connection between this psalm and what that woman knew? Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name. v. 10-12. She understood His glory when others could not. Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:48-50.

All of Scripture is connected and tells us of a love we would not know without God helping us. We know hate, intolerance, self-righteousness, evil. His love cuts through the confusion that all of that brings us – and brings us into the light of His truth. God is love 1 John 4:8. How do we even begin to believe that? We ask. We trust. We let God guide us. Impossible? Without Him, yes. With Him, nothing is impossible. Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous, and praise His Holy name. He leads us out of the darkness of our sins. Thank You, Lord, for so great a love. You save us, You redeem us, You heal us. You alone deliver us from all evil and bring us into the glorious light of Your love. That is our hope. That is His promise!
