Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him…During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.” Daniel 2:16, 19-20, 22.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 MSG.
Over and over God tells me to be still with Him. Dwell with Him in the peace of His love. And there with our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, I find sanctuary. Have you ever noticed when reading Scripture that God is not in a hurry, He is not worried. And this psalm, Psalm 95, feels like it’s written in a two-part harmony…the writer and our God. The author’s part: Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the sheep of his pasture, the flock under his care. v. 1-7. And God’s part: Today, if only you would hear his voice, “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did. For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’ So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’” v. 8-11.
How can we enter into God’s rest and be under His care when we refuse to trust Him? It is our choice always. Life with our Creator God and growing in His love for us; or life lived trying to walk away from Him so we can do what we want. What do you want? When I take a good look at this world today I see people doing what they want. I don’t see a lot of love. I don’t see a lot of hope. I don’t see a lot of good. I see desperation. I see people screaming at one another. I see anger and hate and contempt. Our life apart from the love of God. Don’t kid yourself. That restless longing you feel and don’t understand? The unhurried rhythms of God’s love and His peace guiding you. Sanctuary. When you turn around an amazing thing happens. A world that God inhabits opens up and you see His love for you and for all of us. You begin to envision a world where we love one another and appreciate the differences God created to be. God’s rest is life with Him and one another growing in love and care for one another. Do we see that today? We see it where people have chosen God’s love! They are seeking to live in His love for us now. The family of God. Sanctuary! We are imperfect, we are flawed but we are willing and eager to trust God and learn from and with Him. And He is leading us to be there for one another in a deeper love than we have ever experienced. He is opening our eyes to what is possible and it is Good! He knows what lies in darkness…that is why He is leading us to the light that dwells with Him. The Sanctuary of His Love for us.
