Pray With Your Heart Open to God

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Philippians 2:3.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail. Isaiah 51:6.

I can’t help but think that the above Scripture verses are needed for all of us today because this world and all of its’ problems are so vast and beyond the ability of anyone but Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit, to heal. The more I think I know, the less I understand. The psalmist asks questions pertinent to today. Psalm 82. How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?…The “gods” know nothing, they understand nothing…They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken…I said, “You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.”…But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler…v. 2, 5, 6, 7. That’s the reality the psalmist saw and that we see today if we have eyes to see. His answer? God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”…Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed…Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked…Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance…v. 1, 3, 4, 8. All nations.

It’s hard to consider others better than ourselves. That seems to be a big part of our problem…especially when we see others doing unspeakable wickedness and evil. Do we ignore the evil? I think a really helpful starting point is to consider our Creator God – I AM – better than ourselves and then trust Him. If you can get to that point, your life will never be the same. How do we get there? We open our hearts to God and pray. Every heart in every nation needs the light of God’s truth and love guiding them. It’s deeply personal. The need for God is great.
