Our Path With God

Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17 NRSV.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

Can we truly walk in this life oblivious to our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit? What a difference is our path when we walk with God. Our psalm, Psalm 74, was written after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. The temple was destroyed. O God, why have you rejected us forever?…Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary…They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name…They said in their hearts, “We will crush them completely!”…They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land…We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be…v. 1, 3, 7, 8, 9. Looking at the devastation of the ruins in war-torn lands today, it’s not hard to imagine what Jerusalem looked like nor the devastation they felt. But…God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth…The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon…It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter…Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land…v. 12, 16, 17, 20.

Have regard for your covenant? It is we who have forgotten! God is faithful. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:26-29. He did that for us because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land. We can’t stop the violence or the idolatry in mens hearts. But we can pray as Elisha prayed that God will open their eyes that they may see Him. What a blessing when our eyes are opened to our God and His presence with us. Life takes on new meaning with purpose for eternity with our God who loves us. Our path with God. There is so much more to this life we live and it begins with God with us. Only then can we begin to understand and ask questions only He can answer. And what joy as we learn from Him in the company of those who love Him! He calls us together because we are loved.
