Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3.
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:11-14.
When you put your hope in Christ, how can you not praise the Father? To be led by the Holy Spirit is to live in the peace and the hope of our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. In Him, how can we not trust all things? Our God is faithful and He is Sovereign.
Have you ever thought about what would make a perfect king? Would our God agree with you? It says this psalm, Psalm 72, was written by Solomon. Solomon asked God for wisdom and he was not a perfect king. No human king could be perfect. When I think of the perfect king I think of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I think about His time with us on earth and how he upended what the religious authorities thought about God. I think about how the needy flocked to Him and received healing and love and hope in return. I thought about that as I read this psalm. Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness…May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice…For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help…He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death…He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight…Then all nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed…Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds…Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. v. 1, 2, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19.
Do you wish for those blessings for every person who ever was and will be? Do you care about them? It’s hard to care about so many billions in need. We get overload fatigue quickly. Thankfully, our God who created and sustains all things, is our righteous, holy, loving God and His will is perfect. There is no turmoil in our God. There is love, and peace, and hope that is real and endures for all who turn to Him. No human king can provide any of that. Jesus came to show us the better way. He lived that better way. So can we with His help and truly, we need His help! Trust His help. And then live in His peace guiding you forward. See what a difference faith in our God brings.
