The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10 NKJV.
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1.
An amazing thing happens when you spend time with our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. You are lit from within by the beautiful light of God’s love and truth. How can we not long for Him? His love is our peace and respite. His wisdom brings understanding we cannot fathom without Him guiding us and it is so beautiful!
David understood that and in Psalm 61, I love how he wrote, You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. v. 5. Imagine…the heritage of those who have gone before. I thought about that this morning in prayer after reading Scripture and my devotionals. There are the heavy weights: Daniel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Nehemiah, Elijah…and there are the gentler souls: Ruth, Mary…my grandmother! My grandmother was love. She loved life and she loved us! From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. v. 2. How beautiful that verse. The rock that is higher than I…our Lord and Savior. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings…For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name…Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations…May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him…Then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfill my vows day after day…v. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
To be in God’s presence forever…let that be the joy that draws you near to our God. We need His joy! Let go of your own notions of God. They are not nearly enough. Let God Himself be with you and know His peace. Sitting in silence with Him, let your thoughts be quiet and still. Thank Him for the blessings of life. There is such beauty surrounding us now in the spring of new life growing. That new life can grow in your heart turned to Him from Whom all life is. As you get better at this spending time with our God, gently and gradually you will notice your very soul being illuminated with a light so beautiful there are no words but your heart knows and rejoices! Oh let us be counted in the heritage of those who know and love our God! For it is then we will know how much He loves us.
