Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. Psalm 138:7 NKJV.
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11.
The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17. NKJV.
Every time I go to our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – in prayer, I find His comfort and His peace permeating my soul. In this world is so much turmoil pressing in and down upon us, that it’s difficult to remember that our God is in control. David knew that turmoil, too. Psalm 56. Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack…My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me…All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin…They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life…Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down…v. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7. Bring the nations down. Do we realize that the nations will one day come to God…that as they are today, they need to be brought down? Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn…Isaiah 60:1-3. One day. But now as then, we can know what David knew. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God whose word I praise – in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?…I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you. For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. v. 3, 4, 12, 13. David knew what men can do. He was a mighty soldier. He also understood what Jesus told us…Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Matthew 10:28. For you have delivered me from death…that I may walk before God in the light of life. Men can deliver us to death. Only God can deliver us from death.
Let God’s love do a good work in you. So many of us worry about doing “good works”. God is doing the good work – for it is His good work in us. As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:1-10.
Our hope. And with that hope ever before us, let us be a light showing God’s love because His love is our life and once we realize that truth, why would we ever turn back to darkness?
