He brought me out to a spacious place, He delivered me, for in me He takes delight. Psalm 18:19.
He is wooing you from the jaws of distress to a spacious place free from restriction, to the comfort of your table laden with choice food. Job 36:16.
You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. Psalm 31:7.
Something very special and exciting happens when we keep company with Jesus, our Lord, God the Son. He leads us to our Father and to one another; and awakens us to the Holy Spirit where we find comfort and healing on our journey with our Creator God who shares our lives lived with one another.
Yesterday we celebrated the life of a very dear friend and there was such joy amidst the small tuggings reminding us she won’t again enter into a Zoom meeting, or a church service…but she has moved ahead of the line and she is with our Lord who she loved and rejoiced in! She shared conversations she had with Jesus as though everyone had them, as though she was sharing a friends thoughts, and truly, she was! She participated with our God in her life with Him and there is no greater blessing.
And this morning, in our early morning prayer group, which we have decided to aptly rename our Friday Retreat, we did an exercise called the Labyrinth Prayer. A Labyrinth can be a designed physical path or a drawing on paper but it’s designed to allow you to enter into it and follow along its path, knowing that God is with you. A kind of meditative pilgrimage giving us time to keep company with Jesus as we listen and respond to Him. You move along the path in a circular, meandering direction until you reach the center, the spacious place of rest. I couldn’t help but realize as I did the exercise, that the prayers we had offered for and with one another before the exercise, were like a path in themselves. We journey together. And that is the blessing God wants for all of us. To be awakened and excited for the journey of our lives with God that become deeper as we share what we are learning and experiencing with one another. Trials are shared, lives are prayed for, hope is found and rejoiced in together. Do you think it pleases God when we discover how wonderful His love is and share that with one another? I do! And fortified within these rich experiences shared with one another, we are in the presence of Jesus walking with us as we go deeper with Him into His love for all of us. How I long for that for each of you! A deeper walk participating with our God who loves us. I hope you find that joy and share it with others…because there is no greater blessing and He is here always!
