Deep Calls To Deep

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17 NKJV.

Do you know our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit? Have you ever wondered if you do know Him? It begins with a longing deep within our souls. A longing only He can fill. Nothing else and no one else can come close though we try so hard to make them fit. And in our psalm, Psalm 42, it describes so beautifully what our soul, our deepest part of us, longs for. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God…My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. v. 1, 2. For the living God…Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me…By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life. v. 7, 8. And when others, and even our own selves, doubt in the trials and testings that is this life we live in a broken world, we can say with the sons of Korah who wrote this psalm: Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. v. 5, 11. My Savior and my God.

Deep calls to deep. The deep things of God, His love and mercy, His grace – calls to our hearts and souls and only in Him can we find the peace we long for. Set aside the politics. Set aside the nationalism. Set aside the broken things. The deep love of God is calling to you. His love will heal the brokenness of religion, of family strife, of racism, of hate, of slavery to sin. Our souls have been downcast for so long. Deep calls to deep. Let Him help. He’s here. Always. His love lifts the burdens we carry and with those weights removed, we can lift up our eyes and see His love for us and know He has us. He died for us so we can live with Him.
