As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him – you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5.
Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence. Psalm 42:5 NASB.
Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 NKJV.
This psalm, Psalm 38, speaks of sorrow so deep and piercing that we experience when we hurt others and especially when we sin against our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. v. 2, 3. May we ever feel pain that leads to repentance and to the needed healing Love only God can give us. My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning…I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. v. 5, 6, 8. Have you ever felt that? I have. All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. v. 9, 10. David goes on to speak of enemies. Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good. v. 20. Do we see examples of that today? I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin…Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God…Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior. v. 18, 21, 22.
And when we turn to God’s healing love for us? Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8. God’s love poured out for us heals us. His love shows us a better way and it is so Good! Think of all the things in this broken world that cause great anguish and harm. Then, consider God’s Love. There is no sin His love cannot heal. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather you together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Matthew 23:37. Be willing. It begins in great need. When you come to that place of great need turn to God. In our God is great healing and with Him we begin to learn and understand what cannot be understood without His help. I would never have had these thoughts I am sharing with you without God guiding me. All Goodness comes from God. Thank You, Lord God, for You! You are our greatest treasure and our deepest need. You are our Comforter and Teacher. You light the way with You and joy of joy, not just in Your written word but in Your Presence with us. You, Lord, make all the difference!
