Hold Fast To Our God

Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20. NRSV.

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. Isaiah 50:10.

I love this psalm, Psalm 37. It reminds me that the evil of this world, no matter how egregious, will not last. It reminds me to trust in our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. He alone is Holy and has the wisdom to lead us out of the dark and into life with Him that is lovely and good and true. Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away…Do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes…Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret – it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land…A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found…The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming…Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken…The power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous…I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree, but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. v. 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 35, 36.

It’s so easy to get caught up in worry for things we cannot change, things too big for us. So we keep our eyes on our Creator God. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart…Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun…Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes…Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret – it leads only to evil…The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand…Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones…The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just. The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip…The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. v. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 23, 24, 27, 28, 30, 31, 39.

Can we see that it is God that we should hold fast to? He will bring Salvation. Do not give in to worry over the things we cannot change. Trust our God. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). I see all the evil going on in this world of Sin, how can I not, so I turn away from the evil. And when I keep my eyes on God, I find my footing upon His path of Life that is Good. We need His Good. We need God.
