The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17. NKJV
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8.
As I read our psalm today, Psalm 35, I need to remember David. David was a King over Israel, a man after God’s own heart, a mighty warrior, a song writer of psalms. He lived such a larger-than-mediocre life that few of us will ever experience. And David gave it all to God in trust. Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me…May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame…Since they hid their net for me without cause…They slandered me without ceasing…They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land…v. 1, 4, 7, 15, 20. David gave it all to God. Lord, you have seen this; do not be silent. Do not be far from me, Lord. v. 22. And when David trusts God’s help and intervention, he knows God will be there. Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation. My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”…May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.”…My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long. v. 9, 10, 27, 28.
The problems David faced were problems of a King and of a man who loved God. He was one man. We are so many people and each one of us faces problems that are messy, that overwhelm us at times and bring us to the realization that we need help. Each one of us needs help. And when we seek help from our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – we find a steadiness in the midst of problems…our own problems and the problems of this world we live in. There is so much need. He promises to help. The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17. NIV. Who is like You, Lord? Only God, our Savior, who loves us with an everlasting love. Go to Him. Speak your heart. Give Him your greatest need and your greatest praise. Listen. His Love will speak peace to your heart and steadiness to your soul.
