For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14.
David lamented in Psalm 12 all that was wrong in this fallen world. Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts…the wicked who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race…v. 1, 2, 7, 8. Have you ever felt like that? Reading these psalms it all comes crashing down upon me and it’s hard to see hope and clarity. But God reminds me…And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times…You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever…when what is vile is honored by the human race…v. 6, 7, 8.
And there is my hope and compass. Not the world that honors what is vile but our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – who shows us the way forward. Jesus, the Son, came and with Him came the Kingdom of God’s love and truth. In God there is nothing vile and no lies. In Him we have clarity. As I keep my eyes on Him, my vision clears. Surrounded as we all are by the lies rampant in this world today, it’s good to sit still with God and read His words written for us so we can find strength in the truth of His love for us all. His love is our hope and our salvation and our strength when our own hope fails. He is building us up into faith in Him and it is good because God is faithful and His love is sure. Grace and truth are His.
