For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13, 14.
There are times when it’s difficult to read Scripture and especially the psalms. Reading Psalm 10 is too close to all of the evil we see in this world today and without God guiding us, it’s just words on a page. More words while more evil piles up. We don’t need to be reminded of the evil humans do, we see it all around us. And the problem is, they get away with it. So what do we do? We turn to God. Only He can heal. I can’t heal, I can’t make the awful go away. I’m having a hard time just writing this blog. Who am I to try to tell anyone what they should think or believe in? But this I can say. I find comfort in God and in His words to us written for times just like these. But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror. v. 14, 16, 17, 18. There is too much anger, hate and terror in this world of ours today and it’s so hard to fathom why it has to be. We need Someone so much bigger than all of that. That’s why He came…to draw near and show us the way out of the darkness that’s killing us. God’s love is what will heal us and we have His promises for our good in Him. Don’t turn away into the darkness. Turn to Him and let His love light the way forward with Him. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves…in Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. In His kingdom, mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.
