The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26.
As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7.
This psalm, Psalm 5, shows a stark difference in mindset and heart. We live in a world that is broken. For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness…Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness…make your way straight before me…v. 4, 8. What do we do with the wickedness we cannot solve? In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. v. 3…Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. v. 2. A mindset leading to life. A broken mindset? Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice…Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies…they have rebelled against you…v. 9, 10. It’s not easy to see the brokenness of this world. It takes a lot to truly see it for what it is. We don’t trust our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. v. 11-12.
In one of my prayer groups this past week it was stated that when we accept our Savior God, we are counted as righteous in His eyes. There’s a difference between righteousness and holiness. Holiness is what we grow into with the help of the Holy Spirit leading us out of the darkness of a broken world. Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16. How can we possibly do that? Holy is what God is. We trust the One who is holy to do a good work in us – by trusting Him. In quiet trust we turn to our Savior God and trust His love for us. We let His love begin a work in us that will never end. And we rejoice in so great a love.
